Gym Rules

General Rules

Climbing is an inherently dangerous activity - please take time to read and follow the rules of this facility for both boulder and rope climbing. While climbing at Canyons Climbing Gym, you (and any youth whom an adult is responsible for) assume all risks associated with climbing. The padding will not prevent injury or death. Please exercise common sense and caution.

  • Everyone must check in at the front desk.

  • First time visitors are required to fill out a waiver.

  • If you are not 18 years old, your waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian (waivers are a legal document).

  • Children 12 and younger will not be permitted to belay, and must be actively supervised by an adult.

  • Floor anchors must be used for top rope climbing when there is a significant weight difference between belay partners.

  • No running or horseplay.

  • Shoes and shirt must be worn while climbing.

  • Mats are active climbing areas, please pay attention and use caution at all times.

  • No food or drink on the mats.

  • Do not climb above, below, or close to another climber.

  • Do not sit, stand or walk in the area a climber might fall or swing to.

  • No climbing while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

  • You must be 16 years or older to use the bouldering area.

  • Respect staff, coaches, and fellow climbers at all times.

  • If you see a guest practicing unsafe climbing technique, please alert a staff member.

Bouldering Rules

Bouldering Wall Rules

First time bouldering at Canyons? We offer a quick and easy bouldering orientation for free. All you have to do is ask any staff member at the front desk to help you out.

  • You must be 16 years or older to use the bouldering wall. Exceptions to this are any of our youth and team climbers.

  • Bouldering is climbing without a rope, every fall is a ground fall which could result in serious injury.

  • To reduce the risk of injury follow these guidelines:

    • Down climb instead of dropping

    • Make sure your landing zone is clear

  • If unsure of anything ask a staff member

  • Never sit or stand underneath the bouldering wall. Climbers may fall unexpectedly, so stay at least 6 feet from the wall when not climbing.

  • Proper fall techniques can reduce the risk of injury. Proper fall technique includes:

  • Staying relaxed. Keep arms and legs slightly bent to absorb fall shock.

  • Do not use your hands to break your fall

  • Do not attempt to land standing up.

  • Keep your knees soft and always roll onto your back and butt.

  • Bouldering routes are rated differently than top rope routes. Using the V-scale routes begin with V0. The higher the number (V3, V5, V7, etc) the harder the route.

  • Do not top off the route. Always down climb before following proper fall techniques.

  • No food or drink are allowed on the mats.

  • Children are not allowed to play on the mats. Should this occur please let a staff member know.

  • Remember, bouldering grades are subjective to each climber. Try any route that looks fun to you!

"A great alternative when looking for something new to try. I took my son to see what rock climbing was like, and the staff was amazing—very helpful. We've been back 3 more times since!"

Great place for kids and teens. Those who don’t want to spend time on gadgets and don’t have time to go outdoors.
Annalise and Tanner were extremely great and helpful hosts. They kept the kids very involved and the last part was most interesting as kids had a tug o war against the staff!
But the end of the party all the 17 kids were able to touch the topmost part of the wall! That was amazing. Will come again for sure.

"I came in as a first-time climber yesterday and was beyond impressed. The staff was incredibly friendly and patient, taking the time to teach me the basics of climbing and belaying. As my friends and I climbed, they checked in regularly to make sure we were okay and offered helpful tips. It was a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait to come back!"

"Great place to learn climbing and get into an awesome sport. The staff is excellent—super friendly and helpful. They patiently teach beginners how to get started and stay safe. Plus, they have 5 auto-belays, with both beginner and advanced routes nearby, so climbers of all skill levels can enjoy."

This feels like a second home for me. I love the space, the staff and the community of climbers. Staff is super chill and very open to dialogue if you talk to them. I’ve made friends and also learned SO much about climbing from these people. Staff are chill most of the time but know when to be serious and make sure everyone knows the rules and are being safe.
